DURIANBB UNIVERSITY- THE WORLD'S FIRST DURIAN UNIVERSITY IS NOW OPEN FOR ENROLLMENT!
Spanning across 10 acres of durian farmland in Raub, Pahang,
DurianBB has established the world's
first durian university, where visitors are allowed to experience hands-on
picking up durians by themselves and learning how to choose the best quality of
the fruits, besides educational sharing on the process of durian farming by its
‘professor’, and ultimately tasting the fruits itself- literally fresh from the
farm (oven)! All this are conveniently well-planned and executed hassle-free
for consumers in their interactive 1-Day Guided Tour to the Durian Farm!
As of now, there are about 300 durian trees aged over 30
years old are been nurtured at DurianBB
University specifically located at Sungai Krau, Raub where it provides the
right climatic and soil condition that are deemed fit for the robust growth of
this thorny fruits, which includes the famous durian cultivars that are dearly
loved-by-everyone (durian fans of course) namely Musang King, XO, Black Thorn
and Bamboo breed.
At the farm of DurianBB University, visitors get a good
walkabout within the durian orchard where the Resident Professor will be
passing on knowledge and teaching the tips and tricks of the trade. Next,
visitors will experience hands-on durian picking, the art of cleaning and
opening up durians. Lastly, visitors are served with DurianBB’s signature
durian buffet, this time, farm-to-table!
During the guided tour at DurianBB University, the dedicated Professor Paul Yee will be
present to share durian knowledge with visitors, both conceptually and
technically. While on the methodology part is tad challenging to the layman,
but generally it’s good to know how the process actually takes place such as
how and when to conduct the cross-breeding amongst the cultivars. Might be easy
to the eyes but definitely not when you get your hand dirty at doing it, so
this is where experience counts I suppose (=
Visitors are then led through the hands-on experience of
picking, cleaning durians, and experiencing what it takes to harvest the best
fruits- all in a day! After which, visitors of the tour then get to enjoy a
glorious feast of the freshest durians that are reap by themselves- searching
and picking them up yourself from the farm can be a very enlightening
experience I would say.
Professor Yee will then demonstrate the right technique of
handling durians, at the same time explaining the varying flavours and subtle
nuances in those different cultivars from strong, pungent to sweet and creamy.
Visitors are also welcome to try their hands at opening up the durian shells
too.
So what can you expect upon signing up the tour package?
There will be 2 classes daily- 12pm and 3pm session.

Upon arrival, each visitor will receive a DurianBB textbook
that contains an overview on the quintessential durian information, on top of
which each visitor will also receive a DurianBB Expert certificate, awarded by
Professor Yee himself upon completing the 1-Day Course.
Basically, the one-day course at DurianBB University starts
from 8am at a designated location in Kuala Lumpur, and ends at 5PM right in
DurianBB Park, Kuala Lumpur.
