THE BERRY FARM COTTAGE CAFE @ MARGARET RIVER

After the whimsical visit to the magnificently cherished Jewel Cave, we drove over to The Berry Farm Cottage Café on the way heading up to Margaret River upon recommendation from Steph- a lovely lass from Seattle whom we met during out stay at YHA Pemberton, and also a sporting companion during our climb at Diamond Tree at Manjimup! (=

What greeted us upon arriving at the farm was the splendid view of the many colorful flowers accompanied by the glorious sunlight! The weather was really nice and needless to say, we got immediately smittened of course! (=

The Berry Farm was established in 1986 by the Lindsay Family. It has grown from a small café selling homemade jam to the busy café today, with a winery and a Cellar Door that sells many house special products. The ‘berry’ lovely garden was then purchased by a French family in 2006.

Own farm grown produce is used where possible in their menu as they endeavour to support local cottage producers, besides using organic produce and buying fresh seasonal local fruit and vegetables.
Wulura Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) from Yallingup is used in their menu preparation and Dardanup Butchering Company is sourced for their meats.

For your information, all of the Berry Farm condiments used to compliment these dishes are available to taste and purchase at the Cellar Door.

Exquisite range of gourmet jams, chutneys, sauces and vinaigrettes as well as variety of fruit wines are available here

TODAY’S BRUCHETTA (AUD 15)
Classic Tomato, Pickled Red Onion, Basil and EVOO
Homemade Hummus, Roasted Red Pepper and Za’atar.

I would say this was a very healthy meal to start of the day. The total combination in terms of the presentation and colours were very inviting and helps injecting some mirthful mood. Having said that, some of the pickles remained as acquired taste to some as WP found it pretty challenging to his tastebud and I end up clearing most of it, haha.

RHUBARB & MULBERRY CRUMBLE (AUD 10)
Served with vanilla ice cream

Initially I was hesitating whether to choose the scones or other desserts- I was practically spoilt for choices! There were so many cakes and confectionaries to choose from but over here, we had only one tummy- WP is not a sweet tooth but me! Lolz….

So seeing that this rhubarb crumble was the highlight of the day, so I decided to go for the special pick since it’s not available every day.

So much so I love all kind of berries, but caveat be taken- these fresh mulberries can be really sourish and so piquant that you seems to enjoy the dessert with your eyes semi-closed in attempt to withstand the tanginess throughout, haha. Nevertheless, they were very fresh and I think it could be different varietal of mulberries that those that are planted at my garden back home.

Besides the quick tete-a-tete session, I do really enjoy the light stroll around the beautiful, dainty garden. How I wish I have more time to spend here!

All in all, it was a pleasant visit to this cottage café that is famous of its Beef and Red Wine pies, Scones or Boysenberry pies, whilst watching and listening to the gorgeous little Blue Wren locals who call The Berry Farm home. Wish to return again in the future for its many more berries indulgence!
