2D 1N TRIP @ RAUB, PAHANG

In fact, we actually celebrated in the day before over a staycation at Lakehouse Cameron Highland- which of course, remained a fave vintage place of us. We loved the old charm of the olde architecture such as The Smokehouse, sumptuous intimate candle-lit dinner besides its fresh and vibrantly beckoning breakfast buffet.
 This May, I am spending le anniversary locally so to make more space and planning for upcoming Sydney trip four months later- but I’m ditching Pillow as I’m joining my very own hometown friends instead, haha. Don’t worry, will be bringing back more Aussie goodies and snacks to compensate the period of my disappearance then, haha.
We went to check out this accommodation that was suggested by my colleague- whom herself also hails from Raub. So at least this impromptu trip would most likely be well executed given the guides by our local friend. Another last minute trip? Yea, I was just alerted on this excursion in that week itself, so count us lucky to still manage to secure a room to stay. 
LAMAN PESONA RESORT & SPA @ RAUB, PAHANG
Lot 3 & 4, Seksyen 4, Kampung Baru, Darul Makmur Gesing, Cheroh, 27620 Raub, Pahang
Laman Pesona Resort & Spa was about 15 minutes’ drive away from the town. Basically, upon stepping into the compound, thou shall feel peaceful as you laid your eyes on those lush greeneries pristinely rolling at the background of those chalets. We arrived there roughly about 4pm from KL, just nice to check in and then drove off to town for the local delights.

The room comes with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels and equipped with a private bathroom. 
If only the bathroom could be tad more spacious, then it’s perfect. Otherwise, I find it bit too small and thus crampy. 
There was an outdoor pool too.
Luckily this unit was having its own balcony, so that’s nice as that will add on some inches of space to the decent room for two. We enjoyed staring blindly towards the horizon, bypassing those conifer-like trees (I love ‘em!) as we rested awhile upon checking for a very quick respite. Along with some chirpy birds, it’s rather a zen moment to behold indeed.
After lazing for an hour or so, we headed over to the popular curry fish head of Raub in anticipation for an early dinner.
RESTORAN RATHA RAUB
32, Jalan SS 21/35, Damansara Utama, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
We went ahead with the dishes recommended by my local friend earlier- fish curry was a must, besides the fried chicken and roti canai which were said equally good. 
Indeed, the curry gravy was robust in flavour, perfectly paired with a plate of white rice. There was chunky bites of fish meat, which was good as usually I’m not so much of a fish head fan for I always thought that there wasn’t much meat at the head part. Guess this restaurant chose bigger fish size for its signature plates.
Fried chicken was decent, lightly flavourful with herbs, albeit tad dry to me. As for the roti canai, it’s alright for the light flaky texture it arrived. Either dipped with dahl relish conventionally or went flexible mode like me by helping myself with the generous portion fish curry.

SECTION HEAD CAFE

I guess Pillow really knows me well that without any sweet notes as the last palate teaser, my meal won’t be complete. Luckily got a tip off just in time as I texted my friend for any café recommendations in Raub whilst still enjoying the fish curry, haha.
Tada, there we are at Section Head Café for a quick café-dessert fix before calling it a day.
Raspberry Cheesecake (MYR 9) to go with a cup of hot tea and latte.
Next up, let’s have breakfast like the locals!
And also bringing back some local treats as souveniers.
TONG NAM BEE
55, Jalan Tun Razak, 27600 Raub, Pahang
Was recommended to try the local kaya-butter toastie and their coffee too.
Was glad to see the butter slice was rather thick (I always love dense and rich butter!)
Won’t go wrong when paired with the smooth coffee.
For some savoury, we went for the noodles as well. It came in mixtures of fishball, meatballs and also wantan. Noodle texture was nice as it’s bit springy- guess it’s locally made as there wasn’t strong taste of boric acid.
Gotta go on lighter mode as we plan to hop on another local coffee shops for some freshly baked pastries!
NEW TEA HOUSE KIM FAH BISCUITS AND FOOD
Jalan Dato Abdullah, 27600 Raub, Pahang
Famous for various bakeries especially its kaya puff, this humble shop also offers other savoury similar to any kopitiam (Chinese traditional coffee shop).
Puff, BBQ Roll and Pau alike ranging from MYR 1.70 to MYR 1.90 per piece

Not really a big fan of durian products except the fresh fruit itself. No doubt there was a stronger punch of durian notes compare to normal ones, but I still prefer to enjoy the fruit in its natural way.
Nevertheless, a decent yummy session and it’s about time to wrap up our visit in Raub soon. But before that, we tried our luck by dropping by a local ‘kueh’ shop for some souvenirs back to KL.
永泰饼家 CHOP YOON THYE (奀麻仔茶粿)
11, Jalan Bukit Komen, Kampung Bukit Koman, 27600 Raub, Pahang
This humble wooden shoplot was famous for its traditional Hakka kueh, a.k.a. traditional cakes, and only open 1pm onwards- which was a pretty good idea as it’s just about the right time to visit after our brunch at the city centre.
Indeed there were smorgasbord of colourful homemade delights and so picked some of my favourites namely the butterfly pea glutinous rice cake with grated coconut filling and some red bean coconut cake which I had not seen in ages, for the elderly- they always love ‘em.
As it’s about to bid farewell to this tranquil neighbourhood, a sudden idea popped up again (as the usual case ^^),  then we drove up to Fraser Hill, not for the environment this time but for a special and quiet glasshouse enclave for a quick cuppa and cakes uphill before really driving down back to the town.
