Zen Korean BBQ (Ampang) 2
Apart from the signature dishes of grilled pork, you may also want to wet your palate with the other Korean dish selections too.
Dolsot Bibimbap
Am pretty sure by now, many people must have gotten familiar with this staple food of our Pan-Asian neighbour. This bowl of rice are usually layered with stir-fried mixed vegetables and then topped off with gochujang (red pepper paste) in a stone pot. This stone pot would help to maintain the heat so that you could further cook the rice after the raw egg is added by stirring all of them evenly. Do be alert not to leave your rice untouched for some time for it’ll overcook your mixing and thus, you’d end up with crusty rice layers at the bottom :P The common side dishes for Bibimbap are slices of carrot, mushroom, seaweed, spinach, cucumber, bean sprouts and many more with some dashes of sesame too. However, I find this dish by Zen Korean is tad too dry compared to the normal fare I have. Perhaps it lacks the gochujang sauce or it’s meant for vegetarian as egg is not part of this recipe here.
Kimchi Jigae or Kimchi Stew
It is a variety of jjigae (stew-like) Korean dish, made with kimchi and other ingredients, such as japchae, scallions, onions, diced tofu, pork, and seafood which is one of the most common jjigae in Korea. It is reddish in colour due to the kimchi and of moderate spiciness. The mild sourness of this dish helps brings up the appetite of the diners as well which is best paired with a bowl of white rice. Yum yum!
I guess we were lucky that day as the shop owner shower us with another two complimentary dishes; Steamed Egg with scallions and Red Bean dessert. Could it be due to our jovial atmosphere? ^^ I don’t know but one thing for sure was we were on cloud nine and touched by the generosity of him. Kamsahamnida! ^^
