KyoChon Korean Fried Chicken @ One Utama Shopping Mall, Petaling Jaya

Sounds ubiquitous? But definitely not the average fried chicken that you might know : )

KyoChon Korean Fried Chicken has been established since almost 23 years ago, and has now finally made its inaugural appearance at One Utama Shopping Mall, Malaysia. This Korean franchise takes pride in their choice of freshest fowls used as well as using only 100% natural ingredients.  Apart from bringing the enjoyment of fried chicken one level up, they also emphasize on healthy double-frying process unique to KyoChon, using Canola oil. Now this reminds me of the picturesque view of the canola flowers in Jeju island 2 years’ back. Missing it though.

As for their ID, they are embracing wooden interiors, contemporary-themed establishment alongside with posters of Kpop hit artist; Super Junior. If you notice, there is even a statue of Si Won who seems to be greeting you “Anyeonghaseyo” as you comes in ^_^

Almost everything from food to the restaurant’s raw material are imported from Korea itself, including the black and tough pillars which are being tailored made from galvanium, according to its insightful MD, Terry Goh.

Tada! Here it comes, the best seller of KyoChon fried chicken of Soy Series. It is in the original flavor, enhanced with some soya garlic spice that makes it agreeably toothsome, albeit not that distinctive.

Coming up next is the Red Series variety.

This version chicken meat is glazed with original hot sauce made from  Korea’s hottest red chilli peppers and advisably recommended only for the braved ones. Reason being, the hotness slowly engulfed your taste bud after consumption. Challenging but still manageable :P

It’s not long before my top pick arrive, which is the golden Honey Series!

After some 24 hours’s marinade in their  special seasoning, the luscious meat is then fried to perfection and hand-brushed with KyoChon’s natural honey sauce. Sweet and sticky, and addictively engaging! You just can’t get enough of it. I personally love this series dearly! The skin still remain sticky and not soggy even after a layer of honey coating. You really gotta try this out! Thumbs up!

Some nice silverware to actually accumulate the mountain of bones. Clean and tidy.

Should you wish for something fuller, you can add on from the ala-carte Korean Rice (MYR 3) or the fantastic Korean Butter Rice (MYR 4)

This improvised recipe served to be an eye-opener as far as fried chicken dish is concerned. Not only it is delicious, it is also nicely conceptualized while keeping your health in check.

Furthermore, side dishes are best choice to sorta break the ice around the table and warm up the camaraderie.

You can choose from their savory Seasoned Wedges (MYR 5.90) that are served with Honey Mustard Sauce and Red Sauce.

Another star-stealer and recommended dish would be the Sal Sal Series. These are the boneless chicken breast strips that are thoroughly dipped in special rice batter before deep fried skillfully. They are actually coated with some puffed rice and breadcrumbs and fried to golden crisp. Even so, the meat within remains gorgeously juicy and tender unbelievably! Superb!

Comes with a choice of three dipping sauce; Jambalaya, Honey Mustard and Red Pepper Sauce.

Simply loving it to the max!

If you wish for a much more complete set with rice, then consider Jjimdak Steamed Chicken (MYR 21.90) or Dakgalbi Grilled Chicken (MYR 25.90). The latter differs in having Kimchi fried rice instead, sunny side-up egg and personal salad. The salad dressing is especially very lovely, comes with appetizing blueberry sauce that gives out a refreshing feel

Jjimdak Steamed Chicken

Dakgalbi Grilled Chicken, the chicken is really tender and comes with a hint of smokiness. Bon apetit!

And after all the scrumptious feast, what’s better than to have Premium Teas to clear the throat zestily?

Natural Sparkling Yuza Fruit Tea (MYR 5.90)

Natural Sparkling Plum Fruit Tea (MYR 5.90)

With their committed endeavors in serving only the best food to its guest, no wonder they are touted as one of the largest Korean fried chicken restaurants in South Korea. Do give it a try next round when you’re here especially the loveable Honey-Glazed Chicken! Thinking about it now again is enough to get me drooling……………  Masshisoyo!

Used only homemade original sauce from KyoChon. Too bad they are not available for retail purchase, only meant for its production line : ( Otherwise, i would be the first one to grab the Honey one : )

If you’re still harnessing the thought that this Korean KFC is similar to those familiar fast food chain you tried elsewhere, then it’s time to head over to have a taste yourself for a newer perception perhaps? ^_^
