LWIN LEE | PIZZA SAN FRANCISCO @ KOTA KEMUNING

In ushering the annual great anticipation of Yule merriment, Pizza San Francisco (PSF) is set to mesmerize your palate and senses with their true and good honest food for all, just like its maxim.

Located somewhat further away from KL but certainly not any issue to the neighbourhood of Kota Kemuning folks, is where this latest chain outlet located. Peaceful environment with lush green landscape explains why this is one of the favourite spot for gathering, be it a family affair or just a casual catch up with buddies alike.

We were there at night for the review (luckily the weather was good and a windy night too), thus get to enjoy a more intimate dining experience set against a warmer hue ambience, enlivened by numerous Christmas ornaments that surely keep every diners in good spirits.

PSF menu delivers uniquely a fusion of flavour, ranging from the recipes of American dishes to traditional Italian cuisines under the helm of Executive Chef Hasrul, who has been steering the kitchen crew passionately since 10 years ago. Ah, also not forgetting some noteworthy signature beverages too.

To get the session started, we were first served with tasty appetizers, ensued with some interesting drinks before wrapped up with savory menu.

MUSHROOM BRUSCHETTA (MYR 7.90)
Golden brown wholemeal bread with sautéed assorted mushroom that includes shitake and button varietal, drenched in luscious creamy sauce. It was a good palate-teaser.

SEAFOOD SOUP (MYR 15.90)
Quite a lighter version of bisque thinly thickened with roux  , this bowl consist of bounteous fresh seafood like mussels, prawns and calamari, all liberally simmered in broth combined with spices and herbs. Easy on the palate and not too heavy.

Alright, turkey might be too mainstream, how about the creating a medley of delights with salmon instead, with a twist of creativity too?

BAKED SALMON WITH BREAD CRUMBS (MYR 26.90)
A juicy and luscious fillet of Norwegian Salmon, baked to perfection while retaining the zesty sweetness within it. The bread crumbs created a fantastic crust at the bottom, together with inhouse butter  brown herbs,  that renders crispiness to its exterior, creating a delectable texture contrast to the fish meat.

I personally find this Christmas menu  very scrumptious, can’t help relishing it more that enhanced by its homemade citrus orange relish. It’s value for money  no doubt.

SIGNATURE BAKED LAMB (MYR 59.90)
Specially sourced from Salt Lake City, this succulent lamb rack is oven baked in honey mint sauce and served with roasted potatoes, in order to pamper your deserving palate.

Wonderfully baked racks are elegantly arranged on the plate and smothered with home-enhanced Worstechire sauce for some smoky kick with very mild minty taste, garnished with fragrantly sautéed zucchini, onions, red and yellow capsicums. The meat is kept marinated for 1 day and 50% precooked to maintain its juiciness.

SAN SPECIAL (MYR 31.90- L)
Two in one special!

Half a calzone with turkey salami and half a pizza with minced chicken, cherry tomato, garlic, chili and mozzarella cheese, coupled with a very appetizing tomato based dipping that consists of 18 types of herbs. The red sauce renders a very mild tanginess, striking a balancing note amidst the sweetness, which makes it an enjoyable nibble by itself too (=

PIZZAIDO (MYR 21.90- R, MYR 28.90- L)
Freshly and warmly baked from the kitchen! Generously doused with mozzarella cheese, chili, mushroom, minced chicken and onion to tantalize you toothsomely. The saporous filling was served on thin crust and it tasted very fluffy too.

CIOPPINO (MYR 7.90- with fish, MYR 21.90- with seafood)
One of my favourite pick of the day. Traditionally made from the catch of the day the Italian way, this spaghetti is cooked al dente and daintily mixed with herb sauce that draws sapidity from vegetable stock. It tasted fantastic, very lightly creamed,  and you could have it with either fish or seafood.

BAKED FISH (MYR 17.90)
Slightly drier than cioppino but springily cooked too, the spaghetti is flavoured with sliced ginger, wild mushroom, garlic, chili flakes and basil leaf served before with served with a generous fillet of baked fish. The dory fish that was chosen for their supply was of premium grade, and that was easily perceived the moment you sink your teeth in it. Not only it’s juicy and sweet, but the outer skin that has been spiced up with paprika, was also slightly browned for some crispiness. Thumbs up!

How would any Italian feast be complete without the wrapping of dessert?

CRÈME BRÛLÉE (MYR 4.90)
The all-time favourite of all, the crème brulee by PSF was another brilliant creation too. It was made of the ever popular cream egg custard, that was gently sealed on top with a layer of caramelized sugar. The crunchy coating was adeptly and beautifully executed, with one crack to reveal the milky vanilla centre within. So get ready for your mind to be blown with its simplicity and superior deliciousness in every scoop.

TIRAMISU (MYR 7.90)
A classic mascarpone cream cake made with finger sponge that has been soaked in decadent coffee, served customarily with coffee powder atop. As you may regale visually, this version indeed appeared to be less sophisticated as compared to other mainstream enterprises, so get to enjoy it frills-free.

To wash down the throat after the gastronomical treat, here are some of the options that you could try out for some instant rejuvenation.

For cold beverages, tickle you taste bud with LIME SPECIAL, HONEY MILK TEA, KEDONDONG and many more. Price ranges from MYR 5.90 to MYR 8.90.

Kedondong was thick and refreshingly tangy as it was 100% extracted from fresh juice. And same goes for its other thirst-quenchers.

HONEY MILK TEA

LIME SPECIAL

APPLE JUICE

ICE KASTURI

If you’re a buff of ice blended, then this specialty from PSF would surely cheer you up. One good thing I like about their blended beverages is that they are prepared with just the right sweetness and not overly saccharine like the rest. It could be hovering on the mild border though.

BANANA DAIQUIRI

STRAWBERRY PUNCH

For me, I personally prefer to opt for some warming hot beverage such as CAPPUCCINO, BREWED COFFEE or HOT CHOCOLATE. Price ranges from MYR 4.60 to MYR 5.90)

LATTE

BREWED COFFEE

HOT CHOCOLATE

CAPPUCINO
Thanks Han for this cup of coffee art, specially crafted upon request (= It was pretty, thank you!

Overall,  food was good with the right ambience, coupled with brisk service, making it a perfect chilling out place at this neighborhood. So do drop by if you’re in the vicinity.

Or, if you are somewhere nearby The Mines Shopping Mall, there is also another PSF outlet available there  at your convenience. I too have a pleasant dining experience earlier prior to the visit to its latest outlet, so feel free to check it out here.
