LWIN LEE : YUZEN JAPANESE RESTAURANT @ DAMANSARA PERDANA
Tucked away
at a serene neighbourhood of Damansara Perdana but somewhat obscure due to its
location, is where you would find the exquisite and promising Japanese fare at Yuzen Japanese Retaurant, which is
already 8 months’ old in operation.
Parking is
friendly on Saturday, while it gets rather breezier during the weekdays. The
walkway towards the restaurant was a relaxing one as you feel the instant gush
of wind came brushing by as if welcoming you with some ‘Zen-ness’ before arriving at Yuzen.
Yuzen Japanese Restaurant embarks from a combination of both
tradition and fusion cuisines concept. The word “Yu” represent the meaning of relaxation, ease and leisure,
meanwhile , the word “Zen” represent
the meaning of meal, or a place to have a proper meal. Hence it is Yuzen’s ultimate aim to provide diners
an oasis that allows them to enjoy their meal under a reposeful and stress-free
yet conducive environment.
Feather-light
lace curtains embellished at one nook to add some soft spot while injecting
elegant touch to the overall ambience. The sight of the beautiful flowing
flutter of filmy curtains, is actually quite a feast to the eyes while enjoying
your oishi repast or just chewing the
fat with great companions.
The kitchen
team is currently helmed by none other than Chef Machi himself, who has been in
this line for 22 years, serving moreish authentic Japanese cuisine to tickle
the discerning taste buds of yours.
From his
sheer interest and unwavering passion, we could see that Chef Machi is a chef
with discreet expectation who would go extra mile to create that perfect dish
with uncompromising food quality. Being an avid advocate of the culture behind
Oyakudon's significance when it comes to his culinary creations, you would be
surprised to find some of the ubiquitous simple-looking dish that you usually
see elsewhere is actually not seemingly modest after all, but instead come with
great labour behind it. Thou shall be in awe and would find out soon…………
Among the many fresh sashimi that was in store for us on that day for review, yippie!
Among the many fresh sashimi that was in store for us on that day for review, yippie!
TUNA TATAKI AVOCADO (MYR 22)
A perfect amuse
bouche to open up your palate. I enjoy the way the tuna slices are briefly
seared to retain the original taste while lightly seasoned and garnished with
leafy greens and julienned purple cabbage for some refreshing crispness.
IKA WITH SALMON SKIN SALAD (MYR 22)
If that
delish tuna tataki is yet suffice to warm you up gustatorily, look forward to
this healthful combo of sweet crab meat laces alongside fresh gardens,
flavourfully drenched in goma sauce and spiced up by addictively crispy fried
salmon skin. You can never go wrong with this sides (=
OMAKASE SASHIMI (MARKET PRICE)
Continue to
be gastronomically amazed by Chef’s recommended fresh catch of the day, just
like its name signifies “Omakase” which
means “I’ll leave it to you” in the
preparation course of the sashimi plate.
Excitement
would usually surrounds customers who order omakase
style for they could expect certain surprise and innovation that lies in the seafood
selection which usually also regarded as
an artistic portrayal by the Chef who uses only the highest-quality fish in
this Japanese equivalent haute cuisine serving. Among the fresh cuts served on
that day atop the fragrant shiso leaves were
alfonso, toro, hamachi, hotate, kinmedai, uni, sake and ikura. So make your
best pick!
Pulpy bites of salmon roe accompanied by cooling cucumber.
OMAKASE 7 KINDS NIGIRI (MYR 75)
For the lighter
version, get ready to be delighted with this array of exclusively prepared nigiri-zushi,
graciously paired with respective fresh fishes such as maguro, ikura, toro, tomago, salmon, Hamachi and uni.
Utterly a nonpareil marriage!
Melt-in-your-mouth sea urchin topped with inhouse special wasabi dippin, ichiban!
And the most
unique thing about savoring the omakase sushi here at Yuzen is that you get to
enjoy one of its kind wasabi paste that you won’t find elsewhere! An inhouse
paradoxically made relish that raise the bar higher with its special tartness
and aroma from the usually pungent and burning aftertaste. This special recipe
from Yuzen has made the wasabi condiment a much cleaner and smoother flavor. Thumbs
up!
Now it comes
to the crowd’s favourite, personally deemed as 'savory jelly' from East, chawanmushi! (´∀`)♡
The
chawanmushi here are dished up pretty amazingly. Throughout the cooking
process, none of bonito are used and the
secret of the yet still sweet and flavouful broth lies in its painstakingly
boiled stock for some good 6 hours! Imagine, who would actually go through this
thorough process for just steaming eggs? It clearly shows Chef Machi really puts in lots of efforts to achieve such a milestone benchmark to distinguish this common dish from
the rest. Have a taste and thou shall phantom………….
KANI CHAWAN MUSHI (MYR 10)
Fans of crab
meat would be thrilled to find such a delicate chawanmushi thoroughly infused
with the sweetness of the crabs. Indeed slurpi-licious!
SEAFOOD CHAWAN MUSHI (MYR 10)
For those who
prefer a wider seafood assortment, look no further than this oceanic bowl of
chawanmushi. Silky and velvet in every spoonful.
SURUME IKA TERIYAKI (MYR 20.50)
A supreme and
tangy squid marinated in teriyaki sauce, perfectly paired with the piquant and zesty dipping, with flavour hovering between sour and sweet hint.
CHICKEN TERIYAKI (MYR 13.50)
Tender
chicken fillet that is lightly breaded for the smacking crunchiness on the skin
but yet tastes light enough to spare anyone from being guilt-ridden. It’s all due to
the deft Chef’s technique!
Already
anticipating and wondering what’s there spectacular fare that Yuzen could offer you? Pop
over here one of these days to experience the umami retreat yourself.
Ensue next, we head to Okonomi for some wrap up on a truly Japanese cuisine day, after some bento delights at Sakae Sushi CNY launch earlier of the day. Arigato gozaimasta!
