FIRST EVER GENTING COFFEE FESTIVAL @ SKYAVENUE, RESORTS WORLD GENTING

The Resorts World Genting perks Malaysians up with the first ever Genting Coffee Festival
The 3-Day festival is dedicated to the world of coffee, including exciting demonstrations and challenging competitions!

There is nothing quite like a hot cup of coffee to appreciate the cool weather 6,000 feet above sea level at Resorts World Genting. Well how about two cups or three? Or how about three entire days dedicated to the art, science and love of the coffee bean, at the Genting Coffee Festival?

Taking place over 19th -21th October (Friday to Sunday) recently, the inaugural Genting Coffee Festival promises a fun-filled exploration of all things coffee, from bean to cup. In partnership with NESCAFÉ and the Barista Guild Asia (BGA), the Times Square at SkyAvenue mall is transformed into an exciting and enticing laboratory of java.

Over the course of 3 days, Malaysian coffee aficionados will be able to participate in a variety of activities spanning the entire supply chain of the humble bean which are worth MYR500 each session. These include coffee appreciation sessions, where highly qualified experts will be on hand to guide guests through a Bean to Cup story, telling a tale of how coffee went from a fruit found in the highlands of Ethiopia to travelling the globe as the world’s favourite beverage, complete with samples from major production areas. Guests can also challenge their taste buds at these sessions, attempting to guess coffee, whether local, pure soluble, stale, and commercial or specialty – just from the taste.

Clarence Tan, Vice President of Loyalty and Acquisition at Resorts World Genting mentioned, "We are extremely proud to host the very first Genting Coffee Festival which is the first of its kind at the resort with our partners, NESCAFÉ and the Barista Guild Asia. Throughout the three days, various workshops and contests will be conducted which includes 'bonding', 'brewing' and 'tasting'. This is the first of its kind free workshop where visitors will learn everything about coffee. We hope that visitors will have a memorable time here as they spend their time learning to craft your own latte, smell the beans at cupping as well as sensory workshops."

Specialist classes will also be available. At the Sensory Cupping class, participants can sample a variety of different coffee intensities. There is also a latte art class, where steady hands will be required to form hearts, flowers or even spell out words through the simple combination of milk foam and careful gestures. A brewing class will explore the various and varied ways that coffee becomes a beverage, whether it is through simple stirring or utensils such as drippers, siphons or French Press. Interspaced among these classes will be an espresso tasting and sensory station, as well as skilled baristas showcasing their latte art and crafting beverage recipes through mixology demonstrations and utilizing the wide range of coffee products from NESCAFÉ.

Speaking on behalf of Nestle Products Sdn Bhd, Mr Ehsan Isa, Senior Brand Manager said, “NESCAFÉ is collaborating with Resorts World Genting to celebrate coffee culture in Malaysia through the Genting Coffee Festival. We are inviting visitors of Resorts World Genting to engage in world of coffee through a series of barista-hosted appreciation sessions, coffee-related contests and barista competition throughout the three days.  It’s a great platform for NESCAFÉ to support the coffee industry by encouraging coffee appreciation amongst consumers. Nestlé as food & beverage solutions partner of the resort will continue to support the opportunities and growth potential of leisure and hospitality industry at Resorts World Genting”.

Things then kick up a notch with a Barista Smackdown and Latte Art Throw down competitions scheduled for the second and third day. In the Latte Art Throw down on 20th October, Saturday), from 3pm to 5pm, things get artistic as competitors showcase their wildly imaginative visions to create amazing free-pour latte art. Expect to see intricate details and astounding formations, all in the quest to be named Champion and win the MYR1, 000 cash prize. The 1st and 2nd runners-up receive a MYR300 and MYR200 cash prize, respectively. Visitors can also visit each booth to stand the chance to win a pair of flight tickets for a holiday to Vietnam.

In the Barista Smackdown on21 October, Sunday from 3pm to 5pm, experienced baristas and amateur enthusiasts will compete with each other to showcase their brewing skills. Judged on skill, taste and creativity, the Barista Smackdown champion will walk home with a MYR1, 000 cash prize, while the 1st and 2nd runners-up will receive a MYR500 and MYR300 cash prize respectively.

And if all that coffee isn’t enough, enthusiasts should also schedule a trip to ‘France’ by ordering a cuppa at Cafés Richard, located at Level 1 of SkyAvenue mall, just a short walk away from the Coffee Festival.

Conjuring a Parisian vibe with black-and-white tiles and dark timber, Cafés Richard is dedicated to the fine French art of coffee. From cold drip to cocktails, coffee is presented here in a bewildering array of forms, including the French Genting, a cocktail unique to Cafés Richard Resorts World Genting that combines espresso, Grand Marnier and local Bentong ginger. Overseeing proceedings and always available for a chat is outlet manager and Cafés Richard brand ambassador Luc Jiguet, a specialist in crafting innovative coffee-based drinks to pair with authentic French Brasseries recipes, who is also serving as an expert pair of eyes during judging at the Genting Coffee Festival 2018.
