LWIN LEE | LAO JIU LOU 老酒楼 @ TAMAN BUKIT DESA
On a quest to try out every culinary endeavor by the successful Seiji
Fujimoto-san, soon we reached its 4th enterprise of casual Japanese
food outlets; Lao Jiulou 老酒楼 , that is also located at Taman Desa, same row
as Sanuki Udon and within the
vicinity of Maruhi Sakaba Yakitori.
A slight detour from its previous foray; interior design wise, this exterior
of this particular outlet might trick your mind into thinking that it could be another
Oriental restaurant operating nearby, far from any minimalist concept that our
Japanese eatery usually adopts. Perhaps to reflect as its name has suggested,
Lao Jiu Lou, which literally means Old Bar or Lounge in Chinese.
There are even some figurines of the famous Bruce Lee too!
Red lanterns with dim lighting beckoning to you while you step foot into
the warm ambience eatery. Airy with great ventilation as the windows here are
designed such a way to be open-air environment. It works well at night with the
blowing cool wind but not too sure if it works the same on any sweltering
weather during the day time especially noon.
Eventually the anticipating ramen greeted us.
LAO JIU LOU ORIGINAL
SOUP (MYR 9)
A flavourful broth served with a slice of tender pork meat in a bowl ofspringy
ramen, albeit slightly toned down on the tonkotsu intentness. It works fine
with me as I don’t quite fancy thick porky soup and that’s why I kinda enjoy Tokyoreigned Ramen more :)
LAO JIU LOU CLEAR
SOUP (MYR 9)
Similarly, this version of clear soup comes with delish clams, spring
onions, ajitsuke tamago, julienned black fungus, my favourite wakame and
additional topping of sweet corn as compared to the original type. Oh yeah, am
all for the pulpy sweet corns!
GRILLED DUMPLING (MYR
7 FOR 5PC)
Toothsome bites of meaty fillings decently enwrapped within a silky
dumpling skin. Best to pair with ginger slices as well as a smidgen of vinegar
too.
STEAMED CLAMS WITH
SAKE (MYR 12)
Bounteous serving of fresh shells notably steamed with sake for that Izakaya’s
touch. The taste of the sake is can be quite strong if taken after it’s cooled
down at room temperature where the vodka-like dryness is more apparent. Hence, best
have it hot and they are really fresh too.
GREEN TEA (MYR 1)
And a cup of hot green tea would
be the ideal choice to clear off the satiated
tummy (=
Overall, ramen dining has been a good here with relaxing surrounding. Although
the varieties are not as vast and splendid
like those served by Edo Ramen, Gokuraku Ramen or Baru Uma Ramen,
the wallet-pleasing rate as well as its convenient location which is a distance
away from the hustling city, making it a worthwhile trip for a less traffic
snarl concern.
So cheers for now and Carpe Diem!

The only Japanese restaurant with extremely poor service that I ever came across. They cater mid range mediocre Japanese spread with deplorable services. Extremely rude waiters headed by an Indian head waiter was the major highlight on that evening. Such pathetic character should never be in a food industry, what a put off!
ReplyDeleteI was there couple of weeks ago experiencing such an absolute rude service. I hope the Japanese owner can rectify such unpleasantry experience if one like me had to endure in the presence of my guest. Please learn to become pedantic and well mannered especially in a restaurant business - remember customer is always right! And we are paying for our meals. That is if you want healthy business growth. Anyway we left without having our dinner to live through such service.
I have to borrow the adage once bitten twice shy! Hence, I will never ever want to go to this type of restaurant again, even it has to be the last restaurant standing in Taman Desa! Sadly I used to patron this restaurant some years ago when it used to provide good service and more tastier food. But not anymore, a bitter lesson learnt!
