LWIN LEE | Mooncake @ Royal Gourmet, Premiere Hotel

It’s just less than 2 months’ away before another homey fete of Mooncake festival comes greeting us again! By now, we would have seen mooncakes brands of various bakehouse started pouring into the mall already. Being the more health-conscious society nowadays, many has since seek to have a more salubrious options, where the pastries are either freshly homemade, less sugar, or at least, less preservatives or none at all! :)

With this, Royal Gourmet, an Oriental restaurant located at Premiere Hotel, has come up with this thoughtful idea embedded in mind in their Snow Skin series. There are two selections currently under this category, and hints- the King of Fruits is one of them! I would say this is one of the best I have thus far in terms of the freshness, immaculate ingredients preparation, delicious and most importantly, NO preservatives, NO artificial flavour, but comes with fleshy durian paste originally sourced from the fruit itself with minimal flour. Is it already tastebud-titillating? Well, that’s just a prelude teaser but definitely would share more from the kitchen as you scroll down (=

Chef Kit, the only man helming the baking of these royal mooncakes, is a humble but rather shy person at the kitchen, but very meticulous when it comes to his pastries. Even with a little imperfection on the pastries skin, the product would be rejected to ensure premium products are delivered to the customers. How passionate he is towards his own bestowed responsibility with high expectation set personally! Salute!

*** Thank god that he don’t mind having few of us there at its workplace (could be secret recipe revealing-location too ^^) to open up our eyes on how commercial mooncakes are actually made, but up the ante as each mooncake is made from the mould individually without any machineries involvement, kudos for that!

Now i know why their durian mooncakes are exceptional- its secret lies in the specially imported premium flour from Hong Kong!

The cutesy golden dollops! ^_^

Joining us is Executive Sous Chef Johnson Chang, together with Chef Kit, genially demonstrating to us the process of making the durian mooncakes using D24 breed for its natural sweetness and engaging pungency ( =

These delicate pastries certainly need skillful hands albeit the methodology might appear easy innocently.

Ah, after we are visually enlightened by Chef Kit’s showcase at the kitchen, we are back to our table to savour some of the newly created Dim Sum plates alongside the existing sumptuous spread, prior to the mooncake tasting session that is ensued shortly after that.

Juicy Prawns in Crispy Silk Wrap

 Fried Yam

Shanghai Dumplings

Egg Custard Bun

More steamed baskets/ ala cartes for you to choose from.
By the time we are sampling quarter of them, we are already full to the brim!

After the recent facelift at Royal Gourmet, the environment is much more cozy and spacious, with all Dim Sum buffet selections are served within the comfy confine of the Oriental restaurant.

One of my favourite light picks from the dessert corner, and would deem it as a must-try, are these wobbly and beautiful jellies.

Soon, the much celebrated mooncakes has come to greet us eventually.

Needless to say, the durian mooncake is the star-stealer of the day!

A cup of warm and subtle tea to sum up the day perfectly!
