LWIN LEE | PEOPLE OF KHENG CHEW (POKC) @ UPTOWN DAMANSARA

POKC- a place of COFFEE & EATERY, indeed an old legacy but with some chic and hipster touch. It’s located adjacently at the same row of my other favourite café; Epicuro (=

The view from the upper floor.

Simplistic name, befitting its playful menu name which features various poutry delights that is loved by all.  What does POKC means, you might ask. It actually stands for People of Kheng Chew, who are the Hainanesse that were originally referred to as Kheng Chew. This Chinese clan is said to be known for their aromatic black coffee, delectable food and strong kinship ties, as depicted by the older generation of Kheng Chew folks who love to bond on associations and over kopitiams.

Chatters galore, whispers of next door stories, laugh and distress, handshakes and shoulder pats, all are that usually shard over a cup of coffee and hearty food at the comfy coffee shops. Naturally friendships blossom and love also sparks. That’s what our grandparents used to do when they hung out during the good old days, don’t they? (=

So over here, most of the main dishes are whipped in remembrance of our ancestors’ food of joy and infused with modern tastes. And hence, Sheena, the owner, suggest you to dig in and let your senses roar.

KENGCHEW CURRY KOI (MYR 16.90)
Homemade  curry with chicken and potatoes, served with choice of white bread or rice.

TENDER CLASSIC KOI (MYR 18.90)
Grilled chicken chop, sweet potato fries and mixed veggies with POKC’s authentic sauce.
It comes with sides of sweet potato fries which are sweet and savoury at the same time
** All the meaty dishes would be served with sweet potato fires whenever available

For your info, Koi means chicken in Hainanese dialect

POKC signature slow-cooked lamb shank stew with onions, carrots, potatoes and special spices. Served ith a choice of white bread.

ROTI BABI (MYR 15.90)
One of the best seller, POKC’s signature The So. It's rather crispy on the outside and fully packed with juicy meats inside the fluffy bread. Another alternative to the usual mantao with braised pork.

Some Dutch Coffee may be? (=

MOCHA (MYR 12.50)
Medium-full body, deep taste and rich aroma.
Coffee is by  Three Bears Dutch Coffee, from the blend of Kenya AA, Ethiopia, Sidamo, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe, Columbia Supremo, Brazil Santos and Antigua Guatemala

COCONUT AFFOGATO (MYR 15)
A single scoop of coconut ice gelato topped with double shot espresso

TOUFU FAH CHEESECAKE (MYR 14)

Essentially taste like our silky and slurpy tau fu fah with a light cheesy trail. Also comes with a cube of ginger candy-like topping to beseem its theme with some drizzle of maple syrup too.

Somewhat unconventional to my usual taufu cake pick at Ecole P, Komugi and Tokyo Kitchen.

CHOCOLATE TRUFFLE (MYR 15)
Simply terrific, moist from inside out and not too sweet, love it to the max!

Time to clear down the throat for awhile and soothe soul with some soothing tea. I do love English tea other than green tea (=

TEA (MYR 10 PER POT)

Royal Wedding Tea by Harney & Sons
White tea with pink rosebuds

It is said that the merchant was commissioned to do this tea by the Historic Royal Palaces organization and hence, they came up with this union of Chinese mutan white tea buds, almond, coconut, vanilla, and a floral abundance of pink rosebuds and petals. A regal tea blend to celebrate any glorious occasions and I personally love it very much.
This wedding blend differs from theor regular wedding tea in that it contains almond and coconut extracts. Ingredients used are Chinese white tea, rose petals, cornflowers, marigold petals, natural and artificial almond, coconut and vanilla flavors.

Ambessa Safari Breakfast
A fine African tea blend by Ambessa, Marcus Samuelsson

Brimming with flavor, Safari Breakfast is a robust blend of African black teas with a reassuringly rich aroma. A full-bodied breakfast tea, it's the embodiment of Africa's fine lineage of outstanding teas, spices and vibrancy.

Ambessa Lingonberry Green
Green Tea goes Scandinavian

Years of Japanese and Scandinavian tradition come together in this elegant blend. The fruit-forward notes of tart Nordic lingonberries strike a delicate balance with the refreshing green tea. Ingredients used include Japanese Green Tea, Lingonberries, natural and artificial flavors, and red cornflowers.

Royal Wedding Tea is my favourite of all, so subtle yet so reminiscent..........

I'll be missing those vibrant chromes for now and looking forward to another return soon!

Cheers for now and Carpe Diem!  ❤ℒℴѵℯ❤
